Sharing Ross Daly

Lately I’ve become fascinated with the music of Ross Daly, with the way he melds the musical traditions of Greece, Turkey, the Balkans, the Middle East, India, Ireland, and beyond. His is not a simple eclecticism–grabbing bits and piece from the surface of various traditions–but a deep explorations of the underlying (modal) commonalities of these musics. He makes me realize how limited I’ve been in my own musical (artistic?) explorations–I’ve been locked Western structures and a Western mindset.
