Sudden Warmth

Long Beach, CA

Warm sunny days–eighty-degrees plus! Southern California weather turning on a dime like it often does this time of year. That’s one of the best things about living here–a week or two of summer can suddenly be dropped into even the chilliest winter. It looks like it’s going to hold too, for at least a week. The change in the weather makes a nice metaphor for how I’m feeling in general: suddenly bright and hopeful. I’ve FINALLY begun to begin laying the groundwork for some significant changes in my life. Most people wouldn’t be able to look at day-to-day existence and see this–these are changes are mostly within me. These good vibes are not surprisingly showing up in my writing. After getting side-tracked by teaching, I’m finally getting back to the new novel, which I’m finding I’m enjoying as much as I had before. I’m also looking forward to tacking the other writing projects in my head–the Greek book, finishing Sunshine Seas, and maybe starting the Durrell study (I keep going back and forth on that one). I’m even feeling like there could be some more poetry soon, which is fascinating, as that world has been dead to me for so long …
